After working in public practice for 12 years and completing his Bachelor of Business Studies from Massey University, Lionel first became a partner of an accounting practice at the age of 33. He started his own practice in 2006 out of desire to "do things better". Twelve years on and the business is firmly established in Te Kuiti.
Lionel's interests include fishing, rugby and watching his children play sport.
Shelley joined Lionel in February 2008 after completing her Bachelor of Management Studies. She has over 14 years experience in public practice and prior to this she was employed in local government. She became partner in April 2018, Hence the name "Smith Mitchell Limited".
Aside from work Shelley has had a very successful sporting career having played both representative netball and basketball.
Ross has a wide history of involvement in the accounting industry since he was 17 years old. He completed his professional exams in Auckland and then moved to Te Kuiti in the late 60's and has been in public practice ever since. Ross amalgamated with the team here in 2012. His experience covers most industries and area of expertise.
Outside of work Ross follows rugby and enjoys a game of golf.
Holly is our wonderful accounting technician who started with the firm in April 2009. She has 13 years experience working in a chartered accountants office. She has recently finished her professional exams and successfully gained her membership to Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand as a fully qualified Accounting Technician.
Outside of work Holly loves to get away to the family bach in Mokau and enjoys winding down with her family.
Harpreet, affectionately known as "Happie" joined us in May 2015. He completed his Bachelor of Applied Management (Accounting NZICA) degree from WINTEC in 2017 and he's now working toward his goal of becoming a Chartered Accountant through Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand.
Happie is originally from northern India. Other than work, he likes cooking, road trips and spending time at the beach. He also occasionally plays cricket on the weekends.
Laura is one of our Assistant Accountants born and raised in the King Country area . After working in the tourism industry for 5 plus years Laura opted for a change in scenery and has started in the accounting industry. She is currently studying part-time towards her accounting degree from Waikato University.
When not at work Laura loves to get outdoors with her family fishing, watching the family play sports or just reading in the sun.
Matt is our Assistant Accountant and will be helping us to prepare GST returns, annual accounts and other general accounting responsibilities. He has lived in Te Kuiti all his life and comes to us with billing and invoicing experience from The Lines Company.
Matt and his wife Jane have recently become new parents to baby Beau. In what spare time he has left, he enjoys playing cricket, travel and watching sport
Melanie is our Receptionist Administrator and has lived in Te Kuiti for most of her life. She has previous experience working in records management and also worked in early years childcare before starting her own family. She performs various administrative duties and will usually be the first person you see when visiting our office.
Outside of work, Mel is a mum and loves spending time with her family and friends. She is also involved in the local squash club, holding roles such as secretary, bar manager and Small Nix Junior Squash coach.
Administration / Payroll Manager
Hannah is our administration manager and front of our office. She is from Taumarunui and has previously experience working in another accounting firm. She is an all rounder, performs various administrative duties and manages the reception area like a boss.
Other than work she enjoys cross stitching and sewing. She is a pet lover and has one Rottweiler puppy and one cat.
